Setting high standards for future-proof operational technology cybersecurity
The ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance is leading the way with its benchmarks for world class cybersecurity for automated technology
Digital transformation and automation has been a boon to operators across a wide range of industry sectors, but ever since 9/11, the risk of a cyber-attack has increased exponentially. In his detailed presentation, Andre Ristaino, managing director of the ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance, outlined the importance of standards for automated systems that cover entire product life cycles.
At CS Summit: Gov and Critical Infrastructure 2022, Ristaino explained how automation engineering is often learned on the job, rather than being taught as a specific discipline, and how this can affect best practice cybersecurity performance.
The ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance has been instrumental in developing standards that will ensure operators across a range of sectors can mitigate current and future threats to automated systems. Ristaino’s presentation focused on shared responsibility along the value chain, so operators can determine if issues are related to human error, process problems or inherent vulnerability.
