Preventing cyber-attacks for oil and natural gas transportation
Plains All American Pipeline and the Oil and Natural Gas Sharing and Analysis Center outline key recommendations from a National Petroleum Council cybersecurity study
The National Petroleum Council’s (NPC) 2019 study into cyber security for midstream oil and natural gas operators highlighted the increased risks caused by increased automation and connectivity. For oil and natural gas transporters, this technology has added significant value and efficiency to supply chains, but operators need to be vigilant with cyber-attacks on the rise on a global scale.
In a joint presentation, Angela Haun, executive director at the Oil and Natural Gas Information Sharing and Analysis Center, and Al Lindseth, SVP technology, process and risk management at Plains All American Pipeline, explained the findings of the NPC report and the eight key recommendations to help transporters unleash the potential of automation and connectivity, while staying cyber-safe.
The expert presenters highlighted the practical steps operators can take to prevent serious economic losses, shutdowns and environmental and workplace safety incidents caused by cyber security breaches to transportation systems.
