Member Spotlight: Joshua Scott, CISO, Realtor.com

Alarice Rajagopal | 03/28/2019

Joshua Scott is currently Chief Information Security Officer at Realtor.com. He is an experienced security leader having spent over 20 years in the field covering areas including modern security program development, cyber security risk management, architectural security strategies, securing the software development and delivery lifecycle, security monitoring and detecting engineering, managing incident response efforts, security governance and assurance, and compliance regimes such as SOX and PCI. This month, we caught up with Joshua to get to know him a little more in business and beyond his work life:

1.) What’s the coolest thing you are working on right now?

The coolest thing I'm working on is modernizing my security program and transforming my team into builders not blockers. We're changing the way we do things and delivering automated solutions for our organization. It's really cool to be able to take manual processes and practices and figure out ways to automate all, or parts of it.

2.) What is the greatest technology invented in the last 10 years, and why?

Cloud computing is definitely one of the greatest items invented in the last decade. It has completely changed the way technology is used within organizations big and small. Being able to provision a new server in seconds, or run a workload entirely server-less opens up so many opportunities for teams. No longer are the commodity elements in the way of productivity. It's very exciting and is key to transforming my security program

3.) What are you currently watching on Netflix?

The Punisher on Netflix. I love most Marvel TV shows and movies.

4.) What’s the most ‘useless’ fact you know?

A 'jiffy' is an actual unit of time that represents 1/100th of a second. Now you know ... it's not just a made up word.

5.) What is your favorite way to spend free time?

What is free time? I'm usually playing with my 5-year-old son, playing basketball or working out, or playing Overwatch. If none of that works, then I resort to catching up on shows on Netflix or Hulu.
