Today, DevOps is seen as a crucial way to reduce application vulnerability and increase speed to market by baking security into the development process.
While the benefits are undisputed, the challenge to doing DevSecOps well lies in the ability to successfully integrate the previously distinct development and security structures within an organisation, talent shortages and effectively utilizing the myriad of potential tools.
With that in mind, the Cyber Security Hub surveyed our members to better understand the DevSecOps landscape including the current maturity and key investment areas for the industry. Some of the findings from our 2021 survey include:
- Half of respondents plan to add more application security staff in the next year, reflecting the increasing importance and investment in DevSecOps
- 43% say their biggest frustration is security testing done late in the SDLC because it delays launches
- Of all the application security types, API testing is the most critical for two-thirds of the respondents
- Two-thirds of our respondents lack a security champion, thereby impacting the integration between development and security
