What is IRSF? Stealth attacks lead to huge losses in APAC
Join this session to understand more what’s International Revenue Share Fraud (IRSF) and why it’s an overlooked crime in APAC.
Today, business takes place–often wholly–in the digital realm. With this seismic shift to e-commerce and the need for fast, reliable digital identity verification, fraudsters have learned to game the system with sophisticated schemes designed to siphon money from unsuspecting companies. International Revenue Share Fraud (IRSF) or commonly known OTP abuse/SMS flooding attacks targets companies that generate a high volume of calls and text messages to their customers, such as call centers or online businesses that use SMS one-time passwords (OTP) as part of their sign-up process.
An indication of IRSF is when a spike in the volume of text attempts to phone numbers in different regions of the world occurs. Another vertical to consider is the velocity of text attempts that are coming in. If you see one text attempt every second, with the velocity of the text attempts changing to fifty text attempts in one second, this indicates fraudulent activity.
As IRSF increases here in APAC, many businesses have no real solutions to combat it–or even detect it. In fact, with IRSF, bad actors use a company’s security tactics to defraud them, turning multi-factor authentication into a highly lucrative method to skim money, often undetected until the damage is done.
In this webinar we will be discussing:
- What IRSF/OTP abuse is
- Why OTP abuse is an overlooked crime in APAC
- Who the most vulnerable are, to these malicious practices
- When to detect such attacks and some telltale signs that indicate it is underway
- How to combat these attacks in APAC to safeguard your business
Telesign will be donating USD 25 to The Hunger Project - a global movement of individuals and organisations worldwide working in authentic partnership for the sustainable end of hunger for each webinar attendee on 13th November.
